Description
This is the histopathological image of LIVER AND INTRAHEPATIC BILE DUCTS tissue sample obtained in Medical University Gdańsk and deposited in ZMDL-GUMED. The sample image was taken using: Pannoramic 250 3DHistech slide scanner (20x magnification) and saved to DICOM format.
The detailed information about the patient, sample, and diagnosis are as follows:
Patient:
Age: 53
Clinical description: Liver fibrosis. Congenital haemochromatosis.
Gender: Male
Diagnosis:Classification: ICD-10_10-20
Classification code: Chapter XI - Diseases of the digestive system
Diagnosis: Hepatic fibrosis
Result of the histopathological examination: In the examined oligopyoptate (one partially fragmented section) fragments of the enlarged biliary spaces are usually present, containing a large number of inflammatory cells, mainly mononuclear. Within the above-mentioned enlarged spaces, there are features of pronounced fibrogenesis, characterized by intense portal and periportal fibrosis with the formation of portal-portal fibrous bridges, it is possible that also portal-central, with the presence of a single regenerative nodule. In some portal spaces accumulating elements of collagen connective tissue, there is a clear proliferation of bile ducts. Large groups of enlarged hepatocytes are observed, especially those located near the portal spaces, depositing iron in the form of haemosiderin, and stimulated Borowicz-Kupffer cells accumulating hemosiderin. In places, there are features of mixed steatosis of quite numerous hepatocytes, with a predominance of large droplets. The microscopic image of the examined material indicates the process of intense fibrosis of on the base of congenital haemochromatosis, although coexistence of another liver pathology cannot be ruled out.
