Testing of DES toxicity towards Candida subhashii

Description

Dataset presents results of testing toxicity of selected DES solutions in mineral salt medium towards Candida subhashii.

Evaluation of toxicity and related acceptable levels of DES concentration is based on changes of OD (optical density) values of liquid cultures of Candida subhashii. Three DES solutions are presented i.e. DES1 (choline chloride : ethylene glycol 1:2 w/w); DES2 (L-carnitine : C-8 acid 1:3 w/w); and DES3 (choline chloride : levulinic acid 1:2 w/w). Selected DES solutions were added to mineral salt medium at concentrations of 1, 10 and 30 % v/v. Increase of OD values suggests no or little toxicity towards C. subhashii, indicating growth of this fungi.

OD values were determined after vigorous shaking of the samples using Shimadzu UV-3600 spectrophotometer for the light wavelength of 595 nm.
