Description

This is the histopathological image of BRONCHUS AND LUNG tissue sample obtained in Medical University Gdańsk and deposited in ZMDL-GUMED. The sample image was taken using: Pannoramic 250 3DHistech slide scanner (20x magnification) and saved to DICOM format.

The detailed information about the patient, sample, and diagnosis are as follows:

Age: 65

Clinical description: Autopsy samples. Tuberculosis and pneumonia. Circulatory and respiratory failure.

Diagnosis: Tuberculosis of lung, without mention of bacteriological or histological confirmation

Result of the histopathological examination: Diffuse inflammatory lesions in the lungs with numerous lesions of caseous necrosis, caseous granulomas and giant Langhans type multinuclear cells on the periphery. There are numerous acid-fast mycobacteria in the foci of necrosis (Ziehl-Neelsen staining + in many samples). Additionally, secondary fungal infection (Grocott +) was confirmed. The whole confirms the diagnosis of bilateral tuberculous pneumonia. In addition, foci of atelectasis, edema, congestion, pneumoconiosis, thrombus and myeloid embolism in individual vessels. The pulmonary pleura is focally covered with fibrinous exudate.
