Characteristics and co-occurrence of price bubbles on the art investment market and selected capital markets.
The planned scientific activity is connected with the current scientific interests of the Applicant and concerns the identification of price bubbles in alternative investment markets and their co-occurrence with price bubbles in capital investment markets. The applicant intends to investigate the art investment market, which is part of the broader emotional investment market. The literature research conducted so far has identified a research gap, which is the lack of in-depth research on the co-occurrence of price bubbles on the art market and capital markets of European countries, plus the United States of America. The Applicant understands emotional investments, of which investments on the art market are the leading type, to be those defined, e.g. in the works (Dimson & Spaenjers, 2014; Plastun et al., 2022). There are numerous studies on the occurrence of price bubbles in capital markets (mainly in the G-7 countries), as well as a limited number of articles on this issue in the markets for investment in commodities, wine investments or diamonds. There is no research on the art market. Therefore, conducting such a study on this market will allow for filling the defined research gap and determining whether the examined segments can constitute a source of safe haven for investors in times when it is most desirable, i.e. during periods of turmoil in financial markets. These have been increasingly affecting investment markets in recent years (Russia's aggression against Ukraine, COVID-19, the great financial crisis of 2008).
Due to the above circumstances, the following research goal was defined for the planned activity: Diagnosing and characterizing periods of price bubbles on the art investment market and their co-occurrence with selected capital markets.
