SHAPING A NEW DISTRICT – WHITE RIVER (POL. BIAŁA RZEKA) IN THE CITY OF RUMIA

The subject of the exercises is to design the spatial layout of the new district in the area of ​​the so-called Small Tricity. The task of the group will be to develop initial design guidelines - layout and character of buildings, primar building parameters, service program. The planned construction of the new SKM (Fast City Train) Biała Rzeka stop is the pretext for the implementation of the task. The authorities of the Rumia and Reda municipalities want to use this opportunity to urbanize the areas around the new station. Additionally, an important task is to decide what the development of the existing shopping center in the neighbourhood will be like.

As part of the classes, it is necessary to analyze how the surroundings and the area itself are functioning now, think how to shape a sustainable living environment at the district level and implement these principles in the study project.

The project is implemented as a realistic exercise, based on cooperation with the Department of Architecture and Town Planning of the Municipal Office in Rumia. The lecturers will use their practical knowledge gained in the process of large urban districts design.

Objective of the course

The aim of the course is to introduce development proposals for the area of ​​the new district, to balance the development of the area and to indicate recommendations for the service of social and technical infrastructure. This requires:

• conducting comprehensive analyzes for the design area, identifying the conditions of the location, its potential and problems, in particular in environmental, spatial and technical aspect,
• defining the scope of transformations,
• carrying out the diagnosis and basic design assumptions for a modern ecological district,
• creating a concept of land development,
• indicating elements of the required technical and social infrastructure,
• indication of sample building quarters.
