The project consists in the organisation of a scientific network and a two scientific workshops, concerning harmonisation of the sampling protocol for the atmospheric pollution monitoring in Svalbard, with an aim of comprehensive chemical and microbiological analysis. In the recent years, pollutants of emerging concern have been discovered, while the legacy pollutants require constant monitoring. This challenges the current monitoring protocols for both sample quantity and quality with respect to a wider scope of analytes considered, while there is a limited capacity for extra sampling equipment to be deployed in the field. The project will offer an opportunity for experts from various disciplines connected to atmospheric monitoring, and from different countries conducting research projects on this issue in Svalbard, to meet and develop a more efficient strategy for sampling atmospheric air and dust, and then test these in the field. For Gdansk University of Technology, this is an opportunity to be present in a wide international scientific network, and be included in the long-term research programmes in the future.
