Mycoses are a serious threat, not only to human life but also to food biosecurity, ecosystem, biodiversity and international markets. Current methods of preventing fungal infections remain unsatisfactory. With this in mind, the aim of my research project is to identify antifungal compounds out of 24 new acridine and acridone derivatives targeting fungal DNA topoisomerase. Based on my own results of preliminary studies as well as previously published scientific reports we propose a set of structures. We will check the antifungal activity of this compounds, the ability to affect virulence factors, cytotoxic activity against human cell lines and we will determined their molecular mechanism (the ability to penetrate into the cell, efflux pump affinity, the degree of intercalation to DNA, the mechanism of topoisomerase inhibition).
