ScienceApp - Intensive International Curricula in Applied Sciences

The project is aiming to attract active and ambitious foreign students and doctoral students to start education in the field of applied sciences, i.e. physics, mathematics, and materials engineering, run by experienced scientists and academic teachers of FAP&M. Higher contribution of international students would address a serious problem, in which the number of foreign students limits the number of courses conducted in English, and vice versa. New intensive on-line courses and summer schools offered within the frame of this project will have a strong focus on research and practical aspects of science, which should improve crucial skills of students and PhD students, necessary to solve complex and interdisciplinary scientific problems they would face in the future. We will organize 3 summer schools covering all research areas of the faculty. Blended-learning, run by Polish and international specialists in English will be applied. These events are: 1. In materials science and applied physics: workshop “MAGENTA” related to the EU project “Horizon 2020” aiming to develop new ferromagnetic ionic liquids and a prototype of a thermoelectric converter 2. In Mathematics: „Topology and Dynamical Systems in Action” (TopDynSystAction), summer school for graduate and PhD students 3. In medical physics and materials science: “Monte-Carlo Methods for Applications in Medicine and Material Science”, 3 editions of the same summer schools (1 per year) To extend the didactic offer of the faculty 2 new intensive international curricula (online courses) related to the above-mentioned research areas will be organized: 1. "Quantum simulations and particles", 30 hours of classes, 3 editions (90 hours in total) 2. "Monte Carlo Methods for Applications in Medicine and Material Science", 45h, 2 editions (90h in total). Completing each of the planned activities will be associated with earning ECTS credits. All activities will be widely promoted and available online (live streaming) on dedicated educational platforms.

ScienceApp - is an educational project concerning intensive, international education programs in the field of applied sciences – Mathematics, Physics, Materials Engineering, Nanotechnology, Applied Computer Science, and Electronics. It aims to encourage active and ambitious international students of all cycles to undertake education in these applied sciences and to promote the Faculty and the university in the international environment. Within the project, we organize 8 international hybrid summer schools, free of charge. All classes are delivered by international and Polish specialists from FAP&M or collaborating with our Faculty. Our intensive courses have many practical elements. They are strictly related to research, which should improve the ability, of course, participants to tackle complex scientific issues. These intensive courses are addressed mainly to 2nd and 3rd-cycle students. Each of the summer schools is a separate course, with a specific number of ECTS points and a compulsory part integrated with a given subject, promoting the culture and history of Poland, especially the region.

This project is run within the frame of the SPINNAKER program - Intensive International Education Programs, organized by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), financed by the European Union under the Knowledge Education Development Operational Program (Action 3.3. Internationalization of Higher Education). The budget of the project is PLN 726,900.00.
