Generation and emission of high-power electromagnetic pulses system for UAV activity counteraction.

The main aim of the Project is to develop and implement a high-power electromagnetic (microwave) pulse generation and emission system to be used to counteract attacks or harmful activity of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). Due to the planned significant power (in the order of GW) of radiation, the operating principle of the system will be based on the destruction of key UAV electronic components, which will enable their neutralization as a result of the emission of a single shock pulse. The use of microwave radiation is aimed at increasing the effectiveness of inducing overvoltages and destructive currents of significant value in the exposed targets, which will positively affect the range and effectiveness of the system technology. The microwave radiation generation system (based on a unique prototype of a vircator) will be powered by a high-power electric pulse generation and forming system based on a new and internationally unique technology of a two-stage forming fuse, thanks to which it is possible to achieve overvoltages at the level of 800 kV with a power of 50 GW. The system will be designed with two variants of output antennas: with very high directivity (to neutralize objects at a considerable distance) and in the wide-angle version to simultaneously neutralize UAV swarms. Project implemented at the Gdańsk University of Technology (in cooperation between the Faculties of Electrical and Control Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics and the The Marine Military Technologies Centre) in consortium with Zakład Automatyki i Urządzeń Pomiarowych AREX Sp. z o.o. in Gdynia. It is planned to create many new stands for research related to directed energy, to acquire significant equipment necessary for the Project realisation and to expand the research team. As part of the Project, a number of highly-scored scientific publications on technologies unique on an international scale will be created. Due to the considerable interest of numerous polish and international institutions and enterprises (including EDA), the project has a very high development and implementation potential.
