Weight in motion (WIM) systems are used to make that pre-selection of potentially overloaded vehicles and to direct them to the inspection conducted by police officers. Unfortunately the accuracy of the WIM systems is not sufficient to perform a fully automatic control. The problem is calibration of the system and its sensitivity to changing pavement conditions. The project aims to develop new algorithms for automatic calibration of WIM systems, which significantly improve data accuracy and detection efficiency of overloaded vehicles. The project aims to develop new algorithms for the automatic calibration of WIM systems that will significantly improve the accuracy of data and the effectiveness of detecting overloaded vehicles. The project aims to improve the accuracy of already operating stations through appropriate software, without the need for costly reconstruction of entire systems. The following aspects will be considered: the use of current traffic data and machine learning techniques, interaction of the surface sensor, the influence of the surface temperature, the influence of the vehicle speed and dynamic interactions. The target group of the project is road administration and private companies providing installation and maintenance services for weighing vehicles in motion. The project is interdisciplinary and combine civil engineering, IT and electronics. Thanks to its implementation, Gdańsk University of Technology will gain new research staff and a new testing equipment in the road research laboratory. The project results will provide attractive material for publication in prestigious scientific journals.
