Morse theoretical methods in Analysis, Dynamics, and Geometry.

The aim of this project can be summarized into the following two scientific aims: (1) Develop a Morse homology theory for an abstract class of (possibly strongly indefinite) functionals on Banach manifolds as well as for specific classes of functionals, such as the one arising in the study of (perturbed) Dirac-harmonic maps. (2) Push the study initiated with the previously funded DFG-project 380257369 "Morse theoretical methods in Hamiltonian dynamics" further, thus refining the variational methods alternative to Floer homology for the Hamiltonian action in cotangent bundles and toric manifolds. We would like to strengthen the developed cooperation between researchers from Gdansk University of Technology and Ruhr Universitat Bochum. Visits and talks of top class researchers from Germany, Italy and US at Gdansk University of are planned within the project. Additionally, a PhD student position is planned to be opened in Gdansk.
