The influence of wood moisture content on the cutting process

The aim of the project is to conduct research to determine how effect of wood moisture content on the cutting process. On the base of the method taking into account the elements of fracture mechanics, the values of forces and cutting power of wood can be predicted. This method takes into account the properties of the material, such as: R, fracture toughness and shear yield stresses in the shear plane, τγ. Previous studies have shown, that the origin of wood has significantly effect on these properties. It was also shown that the drying parameters can have effect on the material properties. In the classic approach to determining cutting forces in the process of sawing wood, the moisture content of wood is taken into account by one of the coefficients. Therefore, the question was asked: how influence have of wood moisture content on values R and τγ, which are using to forecasting of cutting forces? Understanding the dependence between wood moisture content and the mechanical properties of wood will enable the modification of the model used so far, which will allow for more accurate forecasting of the energy demand of the wood sawing process. This process is the most popular woodworking process in the wood industry.
