Abstract
The electric traction drives with an AC motor fed by a frequency converter are used more and more often nowadays. The most significant side effects, of a converter's output voltage forming PWM method for AC motor windings, are steep voltage changes, which can initiate several destructive phenomena. The paper presents the adverse influence of a converter common mode voltage on the motor windings' increased voltage exposure and the undesirable high frequency bearings currents flow. Presented results of carried out experimental examination exemplify described phenomena in traction AC motors.
