Abstract
The goal of this chapter is to show a research study related to processing of data acquired by the multimedia services engineered at the multimedia systems department (MSD) of the Gdansk University of Technology. This concerns a survey on noise threat employing the multimedia noise monitoring system (MNMS) and hearing tests performed by the "I can hear. . . " system. The obtained results of the noise measurements revealed that an unfavorable noise climate was found in the examined schools and music clubs. This was also confirmed by the hearing examination results. On the basis of data gathered by both systems it was possible to perform an analysis relating the hearing impairment and noise indicators. New noise annoyance and noise threat criteria were proposed and verified based on the data acquired and analyzed. The measurement results obtained under in situ conditions were compared with those computed by means of the proposed psychoacoustical noise dosimeter.
