Abstract
Arc flashes in HV power systems pose serious electric shock hazard to people and endanger devices and buildings. This problem is discussed in the article. The fire hazard due to arc faults occurring in LV networks is also described. The Polish provisions for reducing the negative consequences of arc flashes are discussed. Attention is drawn to positive results of the risk analysis, which is conducted in accordance with American or international standards as well as the obligatory use of personal protective equipment for employees engaged in live work.
