Numerical Methods: for Electronics and Telecommunications students, Master's level, semester 1
Instructor: Michał Rewieński, Piotr Sypek
Course description: This course provides an introduction to computational techniques for the simulation and modeling of a broad range of engineering and physical systems. Concepts and methods discussed are widely illustrated by various applications including modeling of integrated circuits, heat transport phenomena, traffic flow, chemical reactions, internet site ranking, shock waves in fluid flow, extracting capacitance for a microprocessor signal line. Topics include: mathematical formulations of simulation problems; sparse direct and iterative linear system solution techniques, including Krylov subspace methods; preconditioning techniques; Newton methods for nonlinear problems; techniques for ordinary differential equations, including multistep integration methods; mesh methods for elliptic and hyperbolic partial differential equations, including finite differences (FD), finite volumes (FV), and finite element method (FEM); boundary element method (BEM) for solving integral equations.
