Biography

As classicist I obtained my MA and PhD diploma at the University of Gdańsk. I am also professionally associated with this University as an assistant professor at the Institute of Classical and Slavonic Studies (Faculty of Languages). In my research I interact with Latin old prints and manuscripts. First and foremost I deal with the traces of ancient culture in early modern Gdańsk, but also in the area of former Royal and Ducal Prussia and – generally – in Europe of the German-speaking area. I am interested both in professional research on Greco-Roman antiquity in the early modern period (16th-18th century) and in the reception of ancient themes and texts at an amateur and popular level. I study the manifestations of rhetorical culture of former Gdańsk burghers and occasional literature published in the urban centres of early modern Europe. I am also interested in the intellectual life of communities (i.e. professors and students) from the academic gymnasial schools and universities of the German-speaking area between the 16th and 19th centuries.
