Biography

Jacek Skarzewski graduated in 1972 and in 1975 received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the Technical University of Wroclaw. After postdoctoral stays at Gunma University (Japan) and the University of Stuttgart (Germany), he joined the Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry, Wroclaw University of Technology, and in 1986 obtained his Habilitation (D.S. degree) followed in 2001 by the state title of Professor. In 1988 he became an Associate Professor and in 2005 was appointed to his present positions of Full Professor of Organic Chemistry and Head of the Organic Chemistry Department at the Faculty of Chemistry, Wroclaw University of Technology. In 2001–2007 he served as a Chairmen of the Organic Chemistry Division, the Polish Chemical Society, and in 2007–2012 was a Polish Delegate to the EuCheMS Organic Division. He was elected member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences. Main research topics are centered on synthetic organic chemistry. They include the development of new catalytic reactions and reagents for asymmetric synthesis and enantioselective methodologies using chiral ligands in transition metal-catalyzed transformations. Current research concerned also the synthesis of Cinchona alkaloid derivatives and their organocatalytic applications. He regularly publishes papers in Tetrahedron, Tetrahedron: Asymmetry, Synlett, Synthesis, and JOC.
