The research will focus on the analysis of the possibilities of increasing the energy efficiency of urban structures with the appropriate use of the local potential of the SME sector as stakeholders of energy clusters. As a result, decentralized electricity production may become an alternative that will base its potential on dispersed spatial and organizational forms (energy clusters) concentrated around entrepreneurs in the suburbs. This approach constitutes a new research field, which so far is still much less recognized in the literature. On this basis, it is already possible to draw a preliminary research thesis based on the need to use the potential of entrepreneurs running SMEs to build energy-efficient Polish suburbs. In this context, the potential resulting from the specificity of Polish suburbs and the edge city model may contribute to building such structures. The preliminary research is aimed at identifying the spatial potential for building forms of cooperation within energy clusters in the suburbs. The spatial potential is understood as the identification of the spatial and functional system, taking into account SMEs, which will select the stakeholders of the energy transformation in the edge city.
