Drewno w adoptowanym zabytku - studium przypadku. Budynek nr 2 w dawnych koszarach garnizonu we Wrzeszczu
Abstract
The current structure along with adapted listed buildings and surroundings will create "Garrison of Culture".This part of Gdańsk and Wrzeszcz has been reconnected after eight decades of isolation from the city by joining the square area formed by Grunwaldzka, Słowackiego, Chrzanowskiego, Szymanowskiego streets and the city center. It is a project whitch fits into an aspect of revitalisation related to the socio-economic and environmental goals important for building the identity of the people living in this location, in addition to the promotional/ information, and organizational/ financial activities. The listed building no. 2, Słowackiego Street 17 which is a section of the former barracks in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, is made from brick, in the concept of adaptation and extension of the building no. 2, although it was the wood which caused the most "problems". The designers decided to reveal large parts of the orginal wooden construction in the adapted interiors. These wooden features had been hidden in unused attics and behind thick ceilings for over a hundred years.
