Abstract
Propagation of acoustic waves in shallow sea differs fundamentally from the same phenomenon occurring in deep sea in view of non-negligible distance from the sea bottom in the first case, where presence of two regions limiting the water layer results in the acoustic pressure distribution induced by a harmonic source has an interferential nature as a result of multi-path propagation of the acoustic signal. These interferential properties of the acoustic field in a water layer limited by the free surface on one side and the bottom on the other manifest themselves by forming a series of wave modes. For this reason, we deal with the group velocity when discussing propagation of wave modes. This paper presents solution of the problem of propagation of the harmonic acoustic wave generated by a point source with the Dirichlet boundary condition on the free surface and the von Neumann condition on the sea bottom, with energy losses occurring as a result of reflections from boundary surfaces taken into account. The final result is presented in the form of a closed analytical expression valid in the case of uniform distribution of the velocity of sound in the considered flat-parallel infinite water layer limited by sea bottom and free surface.
