Axial capacity of steel built-up battened columns
PublicationThis paper deals with the numerical investigation aimed to study the axial capacity of pin-ended steel built-up columns. Three methods of calculating forces in chords and batten, taking into account the material and geometric imperfections specified in the Eurocode 3 are considered. The aim of this study was to compare different methods allowing the calculation of the column load capacity and determine a simpler and faster method...

Numerical analysis on axial capacity of steel built-up battened columns
PublicationThis paper deals with the numerical analysis aimed at study the bearing capacity of pinended steel built-up columns under axial compression. Finite element (FE) models were performed for the columns presented in the literature. The main problem discussed in the article is the shape and magnitude of geometric imperfections introduced into the numerical FE model, necessary to obtain the load capacity consistent with the experimental...

A note on simple bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a deformable foundation
PublicationWe study bifurcation of equilibrium states of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation. In the article "Bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation" [Nonlinear Anal., Real World Appl. 39 (2018) 451-463] the existence of simple bifurcation points was proved by the use of the Crandall-Rabinowitz theorem. In this paper we want to present an alternative proof of this fact based...

Bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation
PublicationWe consider two-parameter bifurcation of equilibrium states of an elastic rod on a deformable foundation. Our main theorem shows that bifurcation occurs if and only if the linearization of our problem has nontrivial solutions. In fact our proof, based on the concept of the Brouwer degree, gives more, namely that from each bifurcation point there branches off a continuum of solutions.

Stability and limit load analysis of a cold-formed channel section column
PublicationThe paper presents stability and limit load analysis of a steel column 1440 mm high of a cold-formed channel section, subjected to a combination of compression and bending. Experimental results were compared to the resistance of a code procedure and to the outcome of numerical non-linear analysis. Comparison was made of numerical solutions by means of static (Riks) and dynamic (Explicit and Implicit) methods. Perfectly elastic...
