Biography

In 1988, Janusz Datta finished his studies at the Gdańsk University of Technology (GUT), Faculty of Chemistry. Since then he has been employed at the Faculty of Chemistry in the Department of Polymer Technology. During the first six years of employement he was worked  as a scientist. In this period, he travelled extensively to ZACHEM company located  in Bydgoszcz to gain practical experience related to chemical processing. In 1994, he started his PhD research at GUT. The defense of his PhD dissertation took place at Faculty of Chemistry in 2000. Shortly after receiving his PhD diploma, he accepted the position of scientific at Department of Polymer Technology. Between 2002 and 2012 he was  employed as Assistant Professor. In 2012, he published, in the form of book, his habilitation (habilitacja)  research which has resulted in obtaining the title of PhD habilitated. Shortly after got possition as Associate Professor.

In 2018, he was nominated to the position of the professor.

 He served as project manager, investigator and principal investigator of numerous projects in collaboration with industry partners as well as in KBN and NCBiR  projects.

Since 2016, prof. J. Datta has been a member of Steering Committee of SYNChem project. His research results were awarded at Brussels Innova and Technicon Innovation fairs. He successfully sold the patent that he had registered in Poland. He participated internships at University of Castilla-La Mancha, University of the Basque Country, Donostia-San Sebastian, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, Università di Pisa, Università di Padova, Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences. He still continues  the collaborations with aforementioned Institutions.

 Since 2017, he has been a member of Editorial Board of journal Elastomery. Also, since 2019 he has served the Editorial Board of Journal of Renewable Materials. He become  a member of Scientific Board of CMPiB PAN, Zabrze in 2018.

 Currently he is Vice-Dean for Research of the Faculty of Chemistry GUT (2019-2020)

 Currently conducted research, which he manages, concerns the development of new bio-monomers for polyurethanes, bio-polyurethanes, isocyanates and polyisocyanates (NIPU), chemical recycling of polyurethanes using triols, as well as new functional components of rubber mixtures.

Publications of Prof. Janusz Datta have been cited over 600 times by other authors, with HI = 19. He has been a supervisor of 4 young scientist who got her PhD and is currently a supervisor of further 2 PhD students.
