Biography
Magdalena Podwojewska is a senior lecturer in the Department of Urban Architecture and Waterscapes at the Faculty of Architecture, Gdańsk University of Technology. Since 2016 she has served as Vice Dean for Student Affairs. She is a member of the Pomeranian Regional Chamber of Architects.
Her research and publications focused on the adaptation of railway and post-industrial buildings and infrastructure, as well as to the potential of historic construction and transportation system. Her second area of research includes issues of historical residential buildings and municipal possibilities of their revitalization through, among others, adapting attics.
Her architect activity: In the years 1988-1989 she worked as assistant designer in the Office of Industrial Design in Gdansk. Since 1990, she has led her own architectural studio. In 1993 she obtained a design permit in the specialty of architecture without restrictions. She has designed residential buildings, single and multifamily houses, shopping centers, food service facilities, automotive and health care facilities, and many others.
Her didactic activity: Theses done under her direction have won awards and distinctions, among others: the second prize SARP award (Association of Polish Architects award) and a distinction from the Governor of West Pomerania. Mrs Podwojewska cooperates with foreign universities in the double diploma program: she has directed Master’s and Engineering theses which were defended at universities in Covilla (Portugal) and Hiledsheim (Germany). She received three teaching awards from the President of Gdansk University of Technology.
