Description

This is the histopathological image of COLON tissue sample obtained in Medical University Gdańsk and deposited in ZMDL-GUMED. The sample image was taken using: Pannoramic 250 3DHistech slide scanner (20x magnification) and saved to DICOM format.

Patient:

Age: 43

Clinical description: Diarrhea with mucus for several weeks. In colonoscopy in the caecum and ascending colon, numerous irregular, slit-shaped ulcers, the surrounding mucosa is hyperemic, without marked vascular reticulation, in the sigmoid colon areas of cobblestone-like appearance, above that the rest of colon wall and mucosa are normal (endoscopic picture of Crohn's disease)

Result of the histopathological examination: Chron's disease of colon, active phase Colon mucosa with ulceration and mixed inflammatory infiltrates with a predominance of plasmocytes and neutrophils. The architecture of the crypts is disturbed. Crypts with granulocyte infiltration and crypt abscess formation. Sarcoid-like granulomas visible in the submucosa.
