Detection of UPEC IH11128 ability to form biofilm in a standard congo red (CR) method of colony staining.
Description
A standard method of testing E. coli's ability to form biofilm is based on the analysis of morphology
of bacterial colonies grown on yeast extract/casamino acids (YESCA) nutrient agar medium containing congo
red (CR) as an indicator dye of ECM production. The CR dye adsorbed from the culture medium by
bacteria binds to the components of the ECM, including curli and cellulose, giving the bacterial colonies a
dark red color.
The dataset contains original photos of bacterial colonies of the following E. coli strains: IH11128, DR14, CFT073, AAEC191A/pCC90 and AAEC191A/pACYC184. Bacteria were cultured on a YESCA medium at 25 degrees Celsius for 5 days. Pictures of the colonies were taken at intervals of one day.
