Multiple myeloma - Male, 74 - Tissue image [12060630017623681]

Description

This is the histopathological image of HEMATOPOIETIC AND RETICULOENDOTHELIAL SYSTEMS tissue sample obtained in Medical University Gdańsk and deposited in ZMDL-GUMED. The sample image was taken using: Pannoramic 250 3DHistech slide scanner (20x magnification) and saved to DICOM format.

The detailed information about the patient, sample, and diagnosis are as follows:

Patient:

Age: 74

Clinical description: Patient diagnosed with MGUS 5 years earlier, with progressive anemia, hypercalcemia and creatinine 4.5 mg / dl

Gender: Male

Diagnosis:

Classification: ICD-O_3.2

Classification code: PLASMA CELL TUMORS

Diagnosis: Multiple myeloma

Result of the histopathological examination: The biopsy shows intense bone marrow involvement by the infiltration of plasma cell myeloma; amyloid deposits are found. Marrow with cellularity of approx. 60%. Approximately 60% of the marrow cells is infiltrated by plasmacytes with the immunophenotype CD138 (+) / CD56 (+) / Kappa (-) / Lambda (++). Topography and maturation pathways of the main lines of hemopoiesis disturbed by plasmocytic infiltrates, the ratio of M: E lines is 2: 1. Megakaryocytes in proportion to marrow cellularity, with normal distribution and morphology. Amyloid deposits (with polarized light green birefringence in Congo red staining) present in the vessel walls. Bone trabeculae with features of irregular osteopenia.
