Spatial development concept for the Outer Port in Gdańsk - work number 1/23/24

Description

The research series presents in a form of a design chart possible variants of the spatial layout of the water and land areas of the Outer Port of Gdańsk using various combinations of terminals with different annual turnover volumes. Individual works in the series present different solutions for anchorages, channels, port entrances, turntables and basins, both in terms of their size and mutual location. Work number 1/23/24 is the subject of this study.
Work 1/23/24 envisage the westward extension of the North Port of Gdansk. The premise of the new part of the port is based on the construction of a wide loading pier adjacent to the existing northern breakwater. The pier will planned to be protected by an island breakwater to the north and a peninsula breakwater to the west. These structures will surround the basin that will form the main body of the new port. The main entrance to the newly created harbour basin is on the north-west side and an additional entrance, through the channel, is on the south-east side. The entrances will be linked to the existing approach channels.
