UG students’ perception of city’s corporation activities aimed at encouraging young educated to study and settle in Gdansk in Poland.

Nowadays, the urban areas very often attract the poor and the unemployed, leading to the creation of neighbourhoods of poverty (slums) and other economic and social problems. All over the World cities include sustainable goals in their development strategies but the question is, whether the city development strategies foresee activities devoted also to human capital growth. The aim of the study was an analysis of city corporation activities and students’ perception of city’s corporation activities aimed at encouraging young educated to study and settle in cities on the example of Gdansk in Poland. The study was conducted in 2021-2022, based on desk research and internet survey. The research group were students at the University of Gdansk (Poland). The main conclusions from the study are: 1) sustainable policies of the cities are slightly integrated with actions directed to encouraging highly educated people to settle; 2) Gdansk students’ decisions to settle are not correlated with city corporation activities, 3) expected city corporation actions from Gdansk students’ perspective are the preferential accommodation costs.
298 students from all faculties of the University of Gdańsk participated in the study.
