FREELAND Promoting STEAM through participatory urban regeneration

The project aims to create an innovative learning methodology and educational materials that facilitates inclusion of students of different cultures and in general with fewer opportunities and difficulties in social adjustment. The project will create a specific methodology to facilitate teachers in outdoors learning by studying the elements of nature and the transformations in places where nature is free to express herself, as in residual or abandoned areas. The project will create an alternative environment of learning primary in outdoor learning and secondary in virtual or augmented reality applications. The production of these applications is entrusted to the Gdańsk University of Technology. Results: - the development of an innovative methodological guideline dedicated to teachers and students to facilitate integration and the STEAM studies through art, - learning modules to be applied in the field to create open-air classrooms, - a platform with virtual environments. Innovation: - orientation towards the inclusive, active and positive learning reach with outdoor activities, peer education, cooperative learning, the presence of an artist in the development of the methodology and didactic materials, - inclusion of 3D reconstruction of areas to be shared between schools with online and live activities for schools, to activating peer education between different countries. Implementation: 1) Assessment of the cultural diversities and ethnicities in the involved classes (number of students, age, level of knowledge of the national language). Development of a methodology and teaching tools characteristics to actively involve such students (e.g., recalling their own experience in the country of origin, using videos and slogans in their home languages, implementing creative, hands-on activities rather than text readings). 2) Development of activities related to the non-functional areas by using the methodology and the learning modules created with the support of the art. 3) Creation of a platform composed by interactive virtual place, a Virtual Tour. The Virtual Tour will be created with: the images produced by the experts during the meetings and by the schools (most smartphones can take panoramic photos for creating VT), the STEAM information identified by the consortium – research partners and teachers, a design suggested by the artists aimed at bringing out the emotional aspect in the production of educational paths.
