In order to make future food production and underlaying systems fair, resilient, sustainable, healthy and environmentally friendly, cross-national cooperation will be of utmost importance. Each country in the EU has its own unique competences and resources, but only by leveraging these competences through international cooperation will we be able to reach the full potential of each region in the EU.
We have therefore initiated this venture to jointly work with the challenges stated in several EU frameworks, such as the Farm to Fork, where we will tackle the following challenges:
- Lack of support given to SMEs to improve, certify and further develop their food production systems. This includes both technical support as well as business guidance and access to cooperation networks.
- Low general knowledge of how to produce food that has low environmental impact while preserving affordability of food, generating fairer economic returns and fostering competitiveness of the EU supply sector through fair trade.
- Few structural guidelines being available to ensure food security, public health (taking nutrition into consideration) and making sure that everyone has access to sufficient, safe, nutritious and sustainable food.
Given the complex structure of the challenges stated above, we would like to invite stakeholders for and introductory dialogue to evaluate how their organization can support us in our work and possibly be included in an upcoming project. The preliminary segments of the project include the following key pillars/work packages:
- Capacity building of SMEs technical and business competences through access to industry experts and international development networks/platforms.
- End-user analysis to raise awareness of the prerequisites needed in order to be able to create an impact on international food markets while working with innovative, sustainable, fair and resilient food production processes.
- Documentation of experiences and creation of guidelines based on project results and conclusions to increase the outreach and impact of our venture.
Gdańsk University of Technology has a great potential to join and coordinate the this venture in Polish market being technological and information hub for potential stakeholders. What is more we can use the budget from seed money to broad international cooperation in proposed project as well in other EU pro environmental projects.
