Abstract
Japanese encephalitis virus belongs to flavivirus and is the main cause of viral encephalitis in many countries of Southeast Asia with high fatality rate. JE directly affects the central nervous system and ultimately leads to neuronal cell death. JEV primarily affects the pediatric age group, but in the last few years, some reports have been published from different locations of the world reporting JE cases in adults. In this chapter, we try to collect and summarize the cases of JE in adults. Overall, we found that traveling in the endemic area and persistence are the major causes of JE in adults. Forest plot analysis was performed to understand the lethality among adult JE cases. We have found that the black diamond stands for the summary effect showing that most of the adult JE cases are recovered.
