Abstract

The main aim of the paper presented below, is to analysefrom theoretical point of view market concentration as economicproblem. The authors come out of defining market concentration, theypresent basic concentration measures, and characterize sectors onPoland on that ground. In the empirical part, the authors haveanalysed patterns of concentration of 35 sectors in Poland in timeperiod 1997-2006. We draw on recently made available EU KLEMScompany data to describe industries in terms of the dynamic behaviourof firms operating within them. Additionally, we check the propositionof the impact of concentration on output level. We found an inverted Ucurve relationship between concentration and output level
