Abstract
In this study, the microspheres samples were collected from national power station „Dolna Odra”. In this study, the following materials were used: Portland cement class 32,5R and aggregates of 2-8 and 8-16 fractions and natural sand with a maximum grain size of 2 mm and water. Concrete mixtures were made with microspheres additions of 15%, 25% and 40%. A constant water to binder ratio (w/b) of 0,52 was used throughout the investigation. For each mixture, the distribution of air voids as well as the compressive strength (measured in 2, 28, 56, 90, 180 and 360 day of experiment). In general, the increase in porosity of the concrete with microspheres reduces the compressive strength. The air void content, measured after 28 days, range from 9,7% to 24,3%. With time the microspheres in the environment of cement due to their low surface area (< 500 cm2/g) are slowly reacted with calcium hydroxide to form a gel in the form of hydrated calcium and aluminum silicates.
