  • Assessment of damage due to earthquake-induced pounding between the main building and the stairway tower
    Publication

    - Year 2007

Raporty po trzęsieniach ziemi pokazują, iż występujące podczas wstrząsów sejsmicznych zderzenia pomiędzy sąsiednimi konstrukcjami budowlanymi, lub ich częściami, mogą prowadzić do znacznych uszkodzeń lub nawet całkowitego zniszczenia konstrukcji. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest oszacowanie zakresu i intensywności zniszczeń na skutek zderzeń pomiędzy budynkiem głównym szpitala Olive View a wolnostojącą klatką schodową podczas trzęsienia...

  • Badania dynamiczne modeli konstrukcji budowlanych na stole wstrząsowym
    Publication

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników badań eksperymentalnych przeprowadzonych na stole wstrząsowym poddając wymuszeniom sejsmicznym modele dwóch kolidujących ze sobą wież. Wyniki te wskazują, iż zderzenia mogą prowadzić do znacznego wzrostu odpowiedzi konstrukcji, ale mogą mieć również pozytywny wpływ i częściowo wytłumić drgania. Ponadto, wyniki badań pokazały istotny wpływ rodzaju materiału, z którego wykonane...

  • Badania eksperymentalne modelu zbiornika stalowego na stole sejsmicznym = Experimental study on steel tank model using shaking table
    Publication

Cylindrical steel tanks are very popular structures used for storage of products of chemical and petroleum industries. Their safety and reliability is really crucial because any failure may have serious consequences. Earthquakes are the most dangerous and also the most unpredictable dynamic loads acting on such structures. On the other hand, rockburst-induced ground motions are usually considered to be less severe due to lower...

  • Behaviour of asymmetric structures with base isolation made of Polymeric Bearings
    Publication

Earthquake-induced ground motions are the most severe and unpredictable threats to the structures all around the world. Seismic excitations cause a lot of damage in a wide variety of ways, leaving thousands of casualties in their wake. During the last few years alone, the world has witnessed many major earthquakes, five of which have caused far-reaching consequences of a national scale for Haiti (January 2010), Chile (February...

  • Damage-involved response of two colliding buildings under non-uniform earthquake loading
    Publication

Pounding between insufficiently separated buildings, which may result in considerable damage or may even lead to the total collapse of colliding structures, has been repeatedly observed during earthquakes. Earthquake-induced collisions of buildings has been intensively studied applying various structural models. It was assumed in the analyses, however, that the seismic excitation is identical for all structural supports; whereas,...

  • Earthquake-induced pounding between asymmetric steel buildings
    Publication

Earthquake-induced pounding between buildings has been the subject of numerous numerical and experimental studies in the resent years. The phe-nomenon may cause severe damage to structural elements as well as may also lead to the total collapse of colliding structures. A major reason leading to pounding between adjacent, insufficiently separated buildings results from the differences in their dynamic properties. The aim of this...

  • EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL STUDY ON COLLISIONS BETWEEN STEEL STRUCTURES UNDER EARTHQUAKE EXCITATION
    Publication

In the time of high urbanization, the need to build closely-spaced structures forces the designers to take into account earthquake-induced collisions between adjacent buildings and their effects on the response of structures. Past and recent investigations confirmed that interactions between adjacent buildings during earthquakes may cause serious damages to the structural elements and may even lead to total collapse of the structure....

  • EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF A TEMPORARY STEEL GRANDSTAND UNDER CROWD LOAD
    Publication

Temporary structures, such as grandstands, are commonly used during different types of mass events, especially sport and music concerts. In this paper, the results of the experimental study on temporary steel grandstand are presented. The aim of the investigation was to determine modal characteristics of such structures. Modes of free vibrations and corresponding natural frequencies have been obtained for empty and occupied grandstand....

  • Conditional random field simulation of ground motions for large shell structures.
    Publication

    - Year 2002
