Politechnika Gdańska została utworzona w 1904 roku. Działalność uczelni nierozerwalnie związana była z losami Gdańska, dlatego w jej historii do 1945 roku można wyróżnić trzy okresy: pruski, Wolnego Miasta Gdańska oraz czasy drugiej wojny światowej.
