Characterization of the cellulose liquefaction process and analysis of final products.

Biomass liquefaction is a promising biomass conversion process due to its high energy conversion efficiency and mild reaction conditions. During the liquefaction of biomass, the main product is bio-polyol, which can successfully replace petrochemical raw materials used in the processing of plastics. The aim of the project is to investigate the influence of reaction conditions (temperature, time, type and amount of catalyst and solvents) on the cellulose liquefaction process. In order to understand the liquefaction mechanism and to analyze the end products, it is expected to determine the hydroxyl number, biomass conversion (percentage of solid residue), viscosity, mass balance, pH, chemical structure (infrared spectroscopy - FTIR, magnetic resonance spectroscopy - MNR), molecular weight, thermal stability (thermogravimetric method) and oxidation stability (differential scanning calorimetry - testing the temperature of the onset of OOT oxidation).
