Abstract
A conventional rat-race coupler has been doubly miniaturized: (i) characteristic impedances and electrical lengths of microstrip sections have been adequately modified as the first step of size reduction and (ii) T-shaped PBG cells have been implemented to diminish strip section length as the second step of circuit rat-race couplerminiaturization. The experimental results show good agreement with theoretical characteristics. Furthermore, the proposed seven-section PBG coupler enabled the achievement of 85% scale of size reduction in the final design, which proves the attractiveness of presented miniaturization method.
