Abstract
We live in an era of breakthrough- not only in the literal sense of the word, but the breakthrough of the century or the millennium. New discoveries and the crisis present in the economy, society, religion and ecology forces a review of all universally accepted theories. Nature, ecology and environment are the key words used in every area of human activity. It has led to the development of a new scientific field- the philosophy of nature. Many philosophers, among them a German philosopher Gernot Böhme’go try to answer the question "What is nature?" in their theories. Phila Macnaghten and John Urry, to mention just two, carry out studies bordering on sociology and nature to analyze the social scope of nature and the sociology elements in environmental studies. Nature is becoming an important analytical element of architecture, city planning, spatial development, management studies, psychology, anthropology or even economics. It is becoming a basic tool in political activity on a global scale. The aim of this article is to steer your attention to the change in thinking about the relationship between man and nature. It starts in Ancient Greece when the first definitions of nature were formed, and ends in main modern theories.
