Abstract
From kiln-dried spruce wood (with steam) as well as in natural conditions were randomly selected 8 samples. After determining the average dimensions, moisture content and density of the samples they have been cut on the frame sawing machine PRW15M for measurement of cutting power. Based on those results from a linear rela-tionship of cutting power versus feed per toot mechanical properties of wood such as facture toughness and shear yield stress were determined. The value of the correlation coefficient for air-dried wood was 0.582, however for wood of kiln-dried was only 0.38. After elimination from the results of the samples which density significantly differed from the others the values of the obtained correlation coefficients were 0.915 and 0.735, respectively. For determination the mechanical properties of wood by means of cutting tests the samples should be selected in appropriate way in order to their physical properties were similar, or experiments ought to be carried out on a large number of samples.
