Single-Chip Versatile Signal Generator for Navigation

Abstract

The emergence of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) has revolutionized the way we perceive and utilize positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services across various sectors, including aviation, maritime, military, and consumer electronics. The development and deployment of GNSS signal generators are crucial for the testing, validation, and integration of GNSS-based technologies. This paper introduces a groundbreaking Single-chip Signal Generator (SING VSG) IP block, delineating its innovative design, versatility, technology independence, standard interface, and validation processes, which collectively address the current and future needs of the GNSS signal generation domain. The crux of the SING VSG IP's innovation lies in its Versatile GNSS Signal Generator (VSG) functionality. Unlike traditional signal generators that are limited to specific signal types or systems, the SING VSG IP boasts the capability to generate a wide array of GNSS signals. This versatility is instrumental in catering to a broad spectrum of applications, ranging from signal prototyping and evaluation, aiding in the development and testing phases of GNSS technologies, to its integration within navigation satellite payloads and signal processing hardware, where adaptability and precision are fundamental. The ability to produce various navigation or communication signal types ensures that the IP can satisfy diverse application requirements, making it an ideal tool for developers and researchers in the field. This paper presents the Single-chip Signal Generator (SING VSG) IP block developed by GMV, underlining four pivotal aspects of its innovation and applicability in GNSS signal generation.
