  • Cathodes for Sodium‑Ion Batteries

    Publication

Advances in lithium-ion battery (LIBs) technology have improved living conditions around the globe. However, there are increasing concerns regarding the sustainability and criticality of materials (lithium and cobalt) for LIBs. Considering sodium’s superiority in cost and abundance, the development of electrode materials for sodium-ion batteries (NIBs) has been intensively revisited. Limited types of structures are suitable for...

  • SILICA AEROGEL TOWARDS ANODES FOR LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES

An increasing demand for electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices stimulates progress in research on electrode and electrolyte materials. In the field of electrodes materials, silicon is the one of the most promising anode materials for Li-ion batteries. However silicon has the drastic volume variation (around 3 times lower on extraction) during insertion and extraction of lithium ions. As an alternative, nanocomposites...

    - ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces - Year 2017

Advanced metal oxide electrodes in Li-ion batteries usually show reversible capacities exceeding the theoretically expected ones. Despite many studies and tentative interpretations, the origin of this extra-capacity is not assessed yet. Lithium storage can be increased through different chemical processes developing in the electrodes during charging cycles. The solid electrolyte interface (SEI), formed already during the first...

  • Silicon Oxycarbide (SiOC) Ceramic Materials as Anodes for Lithium Ion Batteries

    Publication

    - Biuletyn Polskiego Stowarzyszenia Wodoru i Ogniw Paliwowych - Year 2013

Polymer derived ceramics (PDCs) have attracted attention as alternative anode material for Li-ion batteries. It has been found that ternary SiOC and SiCN ceramics obtained through pyrolysis of various preceramic polymers display high reversible capacities of 500 – 650 mAh/g. In this work we try to correlate the electrochemical performance of polymer derived silicon oxycarbide with its chemical composition and microstructural features....
