The reduction of vibrations in circular sawing machines
PublicationThe presented in this paper the main objectives of the research were to explore vibrations signals of the main spindle system, the machine tool body and a circular saw to extract informative features for assessment of the designs of the panel saw Fx3 and its follower Fx550.Even though the main spindle of the new table sliding saw Fx550 has its rotational speeds larger about 20% in comparison to the Fx3, peak values of the vibrational...

The effectiveness of polymer adhesive in reduction of vibrations of structural members
PublicationIn this paper, the idea of using polymer adhesive as a damping layer is proposed. An experimental study of two aluminium cantilevered beams has been conducted. One of them presents a plain cantilevered beam, while the second one considers two aluminium beams bonded with a polymer adhesive of different thickness (0,5; 1,2; 1,75; 3,1 and 5 mm). The polymer adhesive considered in the study is a specially designed flexible...

Reduction of vibrations of steel structure models with Polymeric Bearings - experimental study
PublicationEarthquake-induced ground motions are the most severe and unpredictable threats to the structures all around the world. Therefore, designing earthquake protective systems has become an extremely challenging problem in civil engineering. Base isolation is one of the most popular and widely adopted methods of protecting structures against earthquake forces. The present paper reports the results obtained from the shaking table experimental...

Reduction of steel chimney vibrations with a pendlum damper.
PublicationKarman vortices observed around chimneys may induce dangerous structural vi-brations at certain wind velocities. The aim of this paper is to analyse theeffectiveness of pendulum damper in vibration reduction of a steel chimney. A two degree-of-freedom system is used to model the behaviour of the struc-ture equipped with a damper. The results of the study show that the use of pendulum with tuned frequency leads to significant...

THE INFLUENCE OF POLYMER STRIPS IN REDUCTION OF A STEEL GRANDSTAND VIBRATIONS
PublicationGrandstands are types of structures commonly used during sport events or music concerts. Dynamic loads generated by crowd movement may have significant influence on human perception as well as may lead to the destruction of a structure. Lighter and more slender structural steel members are more easily excitable by spectators. If the synchronized movement is tuned with the natural frequency of the affected part of the structure,...

Experimental study on the effectiveness of polymer dampers in reduction of structural vibrations
PublicationVibrations of civil engineering structures, generated by dynamic loads, may be very dangerous to the structures themselves as well as may have significant influence on human perception and comfort. A number of different methods have been proposed in order to minimize such situations. This concern newly designed structures as well as those which dynamic properties have to be modified due to problems with excessive vibrations. One...

Application of polymer element in reduction of temporary steel grandstand vibrations
PublicationThe numerical analysis focused on reduction of vibrations of a temporary steel scaffolding grandstand has been conducted in this paper. These types of structures are regularly subjected to dynamic loads which, in conjunction with light and quite slender structural members, may induce dangerous vibrations. To increase their safety, temporary steel grandstands are usually strengthened with the diagonal stiffeners of tubular cross...

Experimental Study on the Effectiveness of Polyurethane Flexible Adhesive in Reduction of Structural Vibrations
PublicationThe aim of the present study is to consider the idea of using polyurethane flexible adhesive in to reduce the vibrations in structures exposed to dynamic loads and evaluate their damping properties in relation to large deformations. Firstly, two aluminium cantilever beams, simulating structural elements (without and with polyurethane layer in the form of tape), were analysed, in order to check the damping of the unconstrained polymer...

Rigid finite elements and multibody modelling used in estimation and reduction of rod vibrations
PublicationIn the paper, a mechanical set composed of a robot (manipulator) and of an elastic beam is considered. The beam is fixed to the top of the robot structure. In most of the similar cases, undesired vibrations can be excited in the beam. They are especially significant, when dynamics in the robot braking period is examined. In the paper, estimation and modification of length of the braking period is proposed, in order to reduce the...

Experimental and numerical study on polymer element used for reduction of temporary steel grandstand vibrations
PublicationThe purpose of the paper is to analyse the effectiveness of a polymer damper in reduction of a temporary steel grandstand vibrations through the experimental and numerical study. The damper considered in the investigation is constructed out of two L-shape steel members bonded with polymer mass of high damping properties. The element has been installed as a diagonal one at the back part of the structure. The method has been compared...

The Method of reduction of aerodynamic forces generated in turbine blade seals
PublicationThe distibution of pressure in the seal gaps does not only affect the so called '' leakage losses'' and the turbine stage overall efficiency but also plays an important role in the generation of aerodynamic forces which may cause self-excited rotor vibrations. The paper describes a chamber seal applied for the reduction of the aerodynamic forces created in shroud seals. This kind of turbine seal was patented and tested.

Forced vibrations in a dynamic system that is damped by a mechanism that trans-pass through its singular position
PublicationIn the paper, vibrations of a hybrid multibody-continuous system are investigated. For all the mechanical devices, effective damping methods are crucial in the design process. To obtain it, installation of viscous dampers or elasto-viscous elements is dominant. In the paper, an alternative method is investigated. It is based on modal disparity. To describe the method briefly, when structural damping is present in continuous systems,...

Investigation of behaviour of metal structures with polymer dampers under dynamic loads
PublicationA large number of accidents concerning structures subjected to dynamic loads have been recently observed. One of the examples of such a structure is a temporary steel grandstand erected using scaffolding system. Dynamic load that is generated by crowd movement has a significant influence on the behaviour of the structure and may lead to excessive structural vibrations. The aim of the study is to consider the idea of using polymer...

VIBRATION PROBLEMS OF AN EXAMPLE OF TEMPORARY STEEL GRANDSTAND UNDER HUMAN-INDUCED EXCITATION
PublicationLighter and slender structural members of a typical grandstand leads to a significant reduction in the frequencies, that is why such structures are more easily induced to vibrations. The aim of the present paper is to show the results of our experimental studies and the numerical analyses, focused on the behaviour of a part of a typical temporary steel grandstand under dynamic loads. The peak values of accelerations of a steel...

A typical solution concerning application of a diagonal tubular members has been compared with elements proposed by authors and called polymer dampers. A polymer element consists of two L-shape steel members bonded with polymer mass. The aim of the paper is to verify the effectiveness...
