dr hab. inż. Wojciech Chrzanowski
Biography
Wojciech Chrzanowski was born in 1952 in Toruń. He completed his studies in Chemical Technology in 1975, getting his MSc in Inorganic Technology (specialty: Anti-Corrosion Protection) At the Faculty of Chemistry, Gdańsk University of Technology (with distinction). Later this year he was employed in the Department of Analytical Chemistry of then Institute of Chemical Engineering and Measuring Techniques, initially as a technical specialist, and after two years as a teaching assistant. In 1984 he defended his PhD thesis, prepared under supervision of professor Rafał Sta-szewski, entitled „Electrochemical GC detector for selective determination of sulfur compounds” (technical sciences, with distinction). In 1980s he manufactured automatic total sulfur analyzers in assorted samples, based on some splinter patents from his doctorate. Some of these instruments were operated still in XXI century. In 1988–1992 was the manager of students’ computer laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry, GUT. In 1992 he left GUT for almost 7 years of stage in Canada (U deSherbrooke) and USA (U Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). In 2001 he got his DSc (habilitation) in chemical sciences.
After his return in 1998, he was employed in the Department of Physical Chemistry, as a senior lecturer and, later, as an assistant professor, while he continued collaboration with his former department. Even before Poland joined the EU he successfully applied to Brussels for grants (V FP) and he became a deputy director of the Center of Excellence in Environmental Analysis and Monitoring. He also participated in the ELME project (VI FP) devoted to the protection of Europe’s seas. He served for 14 years as the Faculty Co-ordinator of the Socrates (later Erasmus) Program. Currently serves as the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry in charge of Organization of Studies (2012-2016 and current term).
His research was concentrated around applied electrochemistry and design of measuring instruments, works for industry and expertises. He published almost 300 papers, including above 30 in JCR journals, co-edited 4 books, coauthored 3 academic scripts, 1 chapter in a book and 14 patents. He was a reviewer in doctoral and habilitation procedures (1+8) and was a head of an NCN grant. He earned almost 1000 citations (966-999, depending on the database) His Hirsch index is 15, also contributes to the HI of GUT. Supervised two dozens of MSc and BSc theses. He currently works on implementation of sensors known as defrost indicators (first series to be produced any day) and in the Maestro project (with his PhD student). In teaching, he pioneered in publication of auxiliary materials for students in the net.
Awarded with a Gold Cross for Merit and Medal of the Commission of National Education. Received 1 ministerial award, good dozen of GUT Rector’s awards, a gold medal at Innovations 2013 inventors’ fair, an RW NOT award.
