Abstract. In this study we analyse the geometrical visualization as a part of the process of solution. In total 263 students in the first year of study at three different universities in three different countries (Poland, Slovakia and Spain) were asked to solve four mathematical problems. The analysis of the results of all students showed that geometrical visualization for problems where there is a possibility to choose different ways...

  • Challenges in providing support for management of evidence-based arguments

The paper considers selected challenges related to the application of evidence based arguments and maps them on the tool support level. In particular, we consider: communication and teamwork, handling large arguments, evidence management and integration, argument assessment and communication, change control and reporting, evidence reuse, user data security and argument portfolio management. Then we explain how these challenges...

  • Positive solutions to Sturm–Liouville problems with non-local boundary conditions

In this paper, the existence of at least three non-negative solutions to non-local boundary-value problems for second-order differential equations with deviating arguments α and ζ is investigated. Sufficient conditions, which guarantee the existence of positive solutions, are obtained using the Avery–Peterson theorem. We discuss our problem for both advanced and delayed arguments. An example is added to illustrate the results.

  • Fractional problems with advanced arguments

This paper concerns boundary fractional differential problems with advanced arguments. We investigate the existence of initial value problems when the initial point is given at the end point of an interval. Nonhomogeneous linear fractional differential equations are also studied. The existence of solutions for fractional differential equations with advanced arguments and with boundary value problems has been investigated by using...

  • Supporting Assurance by Evidence-based Argument Services

Structured arguments based on evidence are used in many domains, including systems engineering, quality assurance and standards conformance. Development, maintenance and assessment of such arguments is addressed by TRUST-IT methodology outlined in this paper. The effective usage of TRUST-IT requires an adequate tool support. We present a platform of software services, called NOR-STA, available in the Internet, supporting key activities...
