Measurement report: Spatial variations in ionic chemistry and water-stable isotopes in the snowpack on glaciers across Svalbard during the 2015–2016 snow accumulation season
PublikacjaThe Svalbard archipelago, located at the Arctic sea-ice edge between 74 and 81∘ N, is ∼60 % covered by glaciers. The region experiences rapid variations in atmospheric flow during the snow season (from late September to May) and can be affected by air advected from both lower and higher latitudes, which likely impact the chemical composition of snowfall. While long-term changes in Svalbard snow chemistry have been documented in...

Svalbard reindeer as an indicator of ecosystem changes in the Arctic terrestrial ecosystem
PublikacjaOver the years, noticeable effort has been directed towards contaminant determination in multiple biotic samples collected from the inhabitants of the Arctic. Little consideration has been given to polar herbivores, however, especially those from the European parts of the Arctic. To provide a broader perspective, we aimed to decipher trace element concentration in hairs of the key species in the Arctic, namely the Svalbard reindeer...

Isotope shifts of multipole lines of Pb I and Pb II
PublikacjaStudies of isotope shifts of three multipole lines between levels of the ground configuration 6s26p2 of Pb I, i.e.: 461.9 nm(1S0→3P1), 531.5 nm(1S0→3P2) and 733.2 nm(1D2→3P1), as well as 710.2 nm line (6s26p2P3∕2→6s26p2P1∕2) of Pb II are presented. We determined the isotope shifts between four stable isotopes: 204, 206, 207, 208. By the use of King plot analysis we were able to separate the mass and the field shifts. We found that...

Mercury concentrations in Antarctic zooplankton with a focus on the krill species, Euphausia superba
PublikacjaThe Antarctic is the most isolated region in the world; nevertheless, it has not avoided the negative impact of human activity, including the inflow of toxic mercury (Hg). Hg deposited in the Antarctic marine environment can be bioavailable and accumulate in the food web, reaching elevated concentrations in high-trophic-level biota, especially if methylated. Zooplankton, together with
