Modeling, simulation, and validation of a TB41 crash test of the H2/W5/B concrete vehicle restraint system
PublikacjaThe paper addresses numerical simulations of a concrete vehicle restraint system. The model is described in detail. The advanced material law of the continuous surface cap model was used to analyze the damage locations in concrete barrier segments. The results were validated against the TB41 full-scale crash test. The test was conducted in compliance with European standard EN 1317, and the validation was performed in accordance...

On the influence of shell element properties on the response of car model in crash test
PublikacjaIt goes without saying that numerical simulations play important role in the modern engineering practice. Contemporary CAD environments combined with FEM solvers, along with computer power of modern processors, give the engineer fast and efficient tool. Ultimately, however it is the user alone who is responsible for the correctness of the results. As long as the FEM calculations remain in the sphere of academic exercise, the inevitable...

Influence of a Lighting Column in the Working Width of a W-Beam Barrier on TB51 Crash Test
PublikacjaRoad equipment, such as, e.g., road safety barriers and lighting columns, are subject to certification according to the EN1317 standard to be allowed for use on European roads. In engineering practice, due to the terrain conditions, there are cases where other road equipment is installed within the working width of road safety barriers. Such situations are not considered during the certification process. Hence, the aim of this...

Curb-to-Barrier Face Distance Variation an a TB51 Bridge Barrier Crash Test Simulation
PublikacjaThis paper addresses the problem of road safety regarding barrier placement as relative to the curb. A short summary of existing regulations is presented. Numerical simulations using the explicit finite element system Ls- Dyna are shown. In the analysis, variable distance between the barrier and the curb is assumed. The obtained result reveals that the distance has little impact on the working width of the barrier.

Numerical analysis of lumbar spine injury during road safety barrier collision
PublikacjaPurpose: Enhancing road safety is a critical goal worldwide, necessitating the development of clear standards for road safety systems. This study focuses on lumbar spine (L-spine) compression injuries during collisions with concrete road safety barriers (RSBs). It aims to analyze internal forces during impact to understand L-spine injury biomechanics in such accidents. Methods: The research included a literature review, analyzing...
