Biography
Dariusz Dąbrowski graduated from the Faculty of Shipbuilding at Gdańsk University of Technology and in 1987 began working at the university as an assistant in the Department of Shipbuilding Industry Organization within the then Institute of Organization and Design of Production Systems. In 1990, he went on a TEMPUS scholarship from the EU and spent 14 months at the University of Sheffield, where he participated in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and obtained an MBA degree. This scholarship allowed him to supplement his education in economics and management.
Since starting his job until the present, Dariusz Dąbrowski has been employed at Gdańsk University of Technology, where he currently works as an associate professor in a research and teaching position at the Faculty of Management and Economics. Since 2011, he has been the head of the Department of Marketing.
His professional experience includes working in the industry. In 1991, he was employed as a Market Research Assistant at Davy McKee Sheffield Ltd., where he prepared his MBA thesis for the company. From 1992 to 1995, he worked at Metrix SA in Tczew as a specialist, manager, and later as marketing director.
He obtained his PhD in economics from the Faculty of Management and Economics at Gdańsk University of Technology in 1998 with a dissertation titled "Development of New Products and its Economic Aspects (Exemplified by Household Appliances)." He earned his habilitation in economic sciences in the field of management at the Faculty of Management at the University of Gdańsk in 2010, based on a dissertation titled "Market Information in the Development of New Products" published by Gdańsk University Press in 2009.
Dariusz Dąbrowski conducts research in three related areas: management of new product development in organizations, market orientation of organizations, and user experiences in human-computer interaction (HCI).
In the first area, he studies creating competitive advantage through new products, creativity in the new product development process, and determinants of high performance of new products. He has received grants for this research, including from the George Soros Foundation, the European Union's Phare ACE Programme, and internal faculty funds. The results of his research in this area were published, for example, in the monograph "Market Knowledge and Creativity in New Product Development" published by Gdańsk University Press in 2022.
In the second area, he examines the mechanisms of market orientation's impact on organizational financial performance. Recently, in collaboration with his doctoral students, he conducted a study on the impact of proactive and reactive market orientation of hospitals on their financial performance. The results of this study were published in the Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation in 2024.
The third area of his research – user experiences in human-computer interaction – focuses on the relationship with users of online services or services offered via the Internet, extending classical HCI research. He was one of the main contributors to two research grants led by Prof. Marcin Sikorski. The results of these studies were published jointly with Prof. B. Basińska and Prof. M. Sikorski in journals such as Social Sciences, Annals of the College of Economic Analysis, and Scientific Papers of the University of Economics in Katowice. He is currently focusing on user experiences and interactions with generative artificial intelligence (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) and intends to empirically verify a model in this area.
Dariusz Dąbrowski is the author or co-author of 59 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals (including 17 in English), 2 scientific monographs, and 24 chapters in scientific monographs (including one in English). His authored or co-authored articles have appeared in journals indexed in both Web of Science and Scopus, such as the Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing, Journal of Marketing Communications, Journal of Advertising Research, Engineering Economics, Journal of Business Economics and Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Argumenta Oeconomica. He has presented papers at dozens of national and several international conferences. He was the principal investigator of two externally funded research grants and a contributor to two other such grants. He has also led numerous research projects funded from internal sources. He has supervised three PhD students and is currently supervising three doctoral candidates. He has reviewed numerous scientific articles, including those indexed in Web of Science and Scopus databases, scientific monographs, chapters in monographs, applications to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, doctoral dissertations, and habilitation theses and applications.
