Green Cruising for High-speed Small Craft in The Baltic Sea

The project intends to reduce main negative impacts of high-speed craft cursing in the Baltic Sea by improving in design and operation of future high-speed craft for a clean, safe and smart boating. In details, the focus will be on three categories: 1. Hydrodynamic design of high-speed craft for safety and energy efficiency: Reducing hull resistant by designing specific hull form such as stepped and tunnelled hulls and increasing hull stability. 2. Propulsion system design for better energy efficiency and lower noise emission: Taking the propulsor/hull interaction effects into account for proposing the most efficient propulsion system well as developing conceptual designs and prototypes of green propulsion systems including electric propulsion systems. Modification of existing propulsion systems will be taken into account, too. 3. Automation and digitalization of high-speed craft operation for increasing safety, smart cruising and fuel efficiency: The project will examine how automation, digitalization and enhanced robust adaptive control systems can reduce the fuel consumption. Additionally, digitalizing of various onboard marine systems of high-speed craft is included in the project activities. The project is a Seed Money type, which is an action provided by Interreg Baltic Sea Region to support the preparation of projects in line with the Action Plan of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). This project not only spreads up the area of Baltic Region cooperation for PG, but also is inline with the goals of new Research Centre of GUT called EkoTech.
