Microscale microbial fuel cell (MFC) batch experiment results

Description

This dataset provides the results of six different scenarios meant to assess the efficiency COD, TN, TP removal and voltage generation in microbial fuel cells (MFC).

The details of tested scenarios were as follows:

  • Series 1: Three different compositions of synthetic wastewater - WW1, WW2, and WW3 were tested. Pre-inoculated electrodes were used.
  • Series 2: The same three wastewater compositions WW1, WW2, and WW3 were applied. New electrodes were used. This Series lasted for 14 days instead of 7 to observe potential effects of microbiome development on new electrodes.
  • Series 3: Further modification of WW2 composition was tested (WW2*, WW2**, WW2***). Mature electrodes were used instead of new ones.
  • Series 4: Application of wastewater composition selected during Series 3 (WW2*), and the addition of plants (Phragmites and Iris) to the MFC system, creating an FTW-MFC.
  • Series 5:  Aeration was introduced into the reactors in various configurations. Modified WW2* and mature electrodes were used in all beakers.
  • Series 6: Extension of the area of the anode electrode through the addition 50 g of graphite dust.

Funding: Data were produced under the OPUS 22 [UMO-2021/43/8/NZ0/00787] financed by the National Science Centre Poland.
